You ask me: Why do I live
on this green mountain? I smile No answer My heart serene
On flowing water peachblow quietly going far away
There is another earth another sky
No likeness to that human world below
You ask what my soul does away in the sky, I inwardly smile but I cannot reply; Like the peach-blossom carried away by the stream, I soar to a world of which you cannot dream. You ask me Why I live here, In the mountains Green as jade. I laugh, And give no answer. But within my heart Is peace. Indeed I have hidden in my breast A paradise Unknown to worldly men. The petals of the peach Fall from the bough And float in silence Down the stream. HE asks why I perch in the green jade hills. I smile and do not answer. My heart is comfortable and at peace. Fallen peach-flowers spread out widely, widely, over the water. It is another sky and earth, not the world of man. |

ある人が私にたずねる、いったいどんなつもりで、この人里離れた緑の山の中に棲んでいるのか、と。私はただ笑うだけで、答えないが、心の中はおのずとのどかである。桃の花びらが川の流れに散りかかり、はるか遠くへと流れてゆく。ここにこそ、俗世間を離れた理想の別天地があるのだ。
余（よ）に問（と）ふ 何（なん）の意（い）か碧山（へきざん）に棲（す）むと 笑（わら）って答（こた）えず 心（こころ）自（おのづか）ら閑（かん）なり 桃花流水（たうくわりうすい） 窅然（えうぜん）として去（さ）り 別（べつ）に天地（てんち）の人間（じんかん）に非（あら）ざる有（あ）り 余に問ふ 何の意か碧山に棲むと 笑って答えず 心自ら閑なり 桃花流水 窅然として去り 別に天地の人間に非ざる有り どうして緑の山のなかに住んでいるのかと聞かれるが、私は笑って答えない。心はいたってのどかである。 桃の花びらを浮かべながら、川はどこまでも流れていく。 ここは別天地、生臭い世間とは違うのだ。 余（よ）に問（と）う 何（なん）の意（い）か碧山（へきざん）に棲（す）むと、 笑（わら）って答（こた）えず 心（こころ）自（おのずか）ら閑（かん）なり。 桃花流水（とうかりゅうすい） 窅然（とうぜん）として去（さ）り、 別（べつ）に天地（てんち）の人間（じんかん）に非（あら）ざる有（あ）り。 余に問う 何の意か碧山に棲むと、 笑って答えず 心自ら閑なり。 桃花流水 窅然として去り、 別に天地の人間に非ざる有り。 |
