My old friend takes leave of the west at Yellow Crane Tower,
in misty third-month blossoms goes downstream to Yang-chou.
The far-off shape of his lone sail disappears in the blur-green void,
$(and)$ all I see is the long river flowing to the edge of the sky.
At the Yellow-Crane pagoda, where we stopped to bid adieu, The mists and flowers of April seemed to wish good speed to you. At the Emerald Isle, your lessening sail had vanished from my eye, And left me with the River, rolling on ward to the sky. OUT west my old friend bids goodbye to Huang-ho-lou; He leaves for Yang-chou in the third moon of the Spring The distant shadows of the lonely sail Vanish in the green space of the sea. And on and on the Yangtze flows, As if it were voyaging on to Heaven. Old friend, bidding farewell to Yellow Crane Tower from the west: In march, among smoking flowers, making your way to Yangchow. From the tower I watched your solitary sail disappear among blue mountains: There was only the immense river running to the edge of Heaven. My old friend, going west, bids farewell at Yellow Crane Terrace, Among misty blossoms of the third month, goes down to Yang-chou. His lone sail's far shadow vanishes into the azure void. Now, only the Long River flowing to the sky's end. My friend bade farewell at the Yellow Crane House, And went down eastward to Willow Valley Amid the flowers and mists of March. The lonely sail in the distance Vanished at last beyond the blue sky. And I could see only the river Flowing along the border of heaven. |

わが友は、西のかた、黄鶴樓にわかれを告げて、かすみたなびき花のさきそろった春三月、揚州へ向かってたって行った。たった一つの帆のかげが遠ざかってゆき、やがて青い空のかなたに消えた。あとにはただ長江の水が空のはてまで流れているばかり。
