WHAT am I seeking in the quiet of my retirement?
Day after day I return to my solitude;
The fragrant grass I would gladly follow,
But, alas, I must part with you, my old friend!
Of those in power, who has there ever been To lend a helping hand to those who wait for it?
Dependable friends are few and far between;
I'm fated to remain a lonely man,
And so I close the gate of my rustic garden.
Forlorn and lonely, my time will never come; Day after day, I return by myself in vain. I wish to go away, to seek fragrant herbs, But regret that I must leave an old friend behind. On whom among those in power might I depend? Few in this world hear the same music as I. All I can do is keep to my lonely solitude, And just close the gate of my old garden. |
