葡萄美酒夜光杯,欲飲琵琶馬上催。醉臥沙場君莫笑,古來征戰幾人回。
英譯: They are about to drink The finest wine from Evening Radiance cups, When the sudden sounding of the pipa urges them forth. Don't scorn them, They who drunken fall upon the battlefield: In ancient days or now, how many return who go to war?
'Tis night: the grape-juice mantles high in cups of gold galore; We set to drink, — but now the bugle sounds to horse once more. Oh marvel not if drunken we lie strewed about the plain; How few of all who seek the fight shall e'er come back again!
BEAUTIFUL wine from grapes in cups that glow in the night; We wish to drink but the lute summons us to horseback, Drunk we will lie down on the sands; don't jeer at us; It is the old story, of those who went out to fight, how many ever come back?
The beautiful grapewine, the night-glittering cups: Drinking or not drinking, the horns summon you to mount. Do not Iaugh if I am drunk on the sandy battlefields. From ancient times, how many warriors ever returned?
They sing, they drain their cups of jade, They strum on horseback their guitars. ... Why laugh when they fall asleep drunk on the sand?— How many soldiers ever come home?
BEAUTIFUL wine from the grapes of Liang Chou in cups that glow in the night; We wish to drink but the P‘ip‘a summons us to horseback, Drunk we will lie down on the sands; don’t jeer at us; It is the old story, of those who went out to fight, how many ever come back?
With wine of grapes the cups of jade would glow at night, Drinking to pipa songs, we are summoned to fight. Don't laugh if we lay drunken on the battleground! How many ancient warriors came back safe and sound?
