High up on the mountain level with white floating
Clouds is the solitary city here.
To the west of Chu River it has been
bleak and desolate for thousands of years.
In autumn weeds
The empty official houses hide;
The parapet wall still remains, on which
Crows are cawing at night.
As I'm looking into the far distance on the wall,
By the boundless expanse of sand I'm perplexed;
Seemingly to bow to the visitor
The Sun is slowly setting west.
Unawars of the vicissitudes of hills and valleys,
The birds flying*,
Are coming to the Yiyang River at dawn
And going away in the dusk of evening.
