Blue mountains are far away;
A white cottage looks poor
On a cold day.
At the wicker gate
Dogs are heard barking;
Amidst a snow storm at night
The wayfarer is returning.
Sunset. Blue peaks vanish in dusk. Under the Winter stars, my lonely cabin is covered with snow. I can hear the dogs barking at the rustic gate. Through snow and wind, someone is coming home. Dark hills distant in the setting sun, Thatched hut stark under wintry skies. A dog barks at the brushwood gate, As someone heads home this windy, snowy night. Bleak mountains at sunset stretching forever; A white cottage even more pinched in the cold. In the night I hear a dog bark at the thatched gate: My host returns home in wind and snow . |
