I have new cotton nightclothes.
When I put them on and walk about
It seems as warm as spring.
I have a special cotton pillow variously perfumed,
More conforting to lean on than a human breast.
Servants attend to my taste in medicines and wine;
My grandchildren brush the dust from hat and gown.
As I turn from left to right
How can I be without shame?
They nourish life in a body
Retired, withered, useless, discarded.
New Cotton bedclothes; when I put them on and stroll it's as warm as spring. A special cotton pillow of clustered fragrance, which you can lean on more settled then you could a human pillow. Servants send me the taste of medicine and wine, grandchildren sweep the dust from dress and turban. Turning, looking from left to right can I be without shame? They're giving life nourishment to a withered useless cast aside body in retirement. |
