Looking out from my pillow
I'm startled by the new year
Whose flowers recall my old joys.
My body is oppressed by age,
Attacked by ailments heedlessly provoked,
Yet my passion for wind and the moon remains.
My wine-glass gives as much joy as ever.
Though I know I should renounce them,
My heart refuses to submit,
So I'll attempt to embrace
One spring more.
From the pillow, startled by the new year; before the flowers thinking of the old joys. This body pressed by age, unduly involved with ailments. The feeling for wind and moon still there, raising the cup a pleasure undiminished. I should give them up but my heart won't submit, so let's try one more spring. |
