Do not be troubled because my house is narrow;
Do not be bothered at my poverty.
It's only because I have nothing in superfluity
That I can be a man of leisure.
For my solitary sleeping-mat I have only green bamboo,
For my only headdress, this black cotton cloth.
All my other appointments are like these—
Sufficient to uphold my identity.
Don't mind that my house is narrow, don't be bothered by my poverty. Only because I've nothing superlative can I now be a man of idleness. Green bamboo my sleeping mat, black cotton my turban. The rest like these suffice to uphold my person. |
