Thinking of idie things,
A wine-glass in hand,
Who feels most deeply
The sadness of departing spring?
The beggar who asks you for money?
The traveller with his wan face?
The candidate who fails his examination?
The official examiner plagued by his troubled heart?–
With lowered eyebrows
I stand beneath the moon;
With arms embracing my knees
I sing crouched before the lamp.
I rely upon you, my tipsy urgings,
More than on ten thousand pieces of gold.
