Many guests I see before my eyes
But is there one among them to dissolve my melancholy?
Young men decline to accompany me;
I need an appointment with you and with the autumn night.
We're lost souls, sunk in wine,
Urging one another on to the love of poetry.

Each of us is old; each lacks a son.
