After getting up in the morning
I put on my black silk cap,
Wear a white cloth gown
And go out for a stroll.
Since the stove is warm,
First I heat the wine;
Because my hands are cold
I have not combed my hair.
This early rising
Reveals smoky mist and white frost.
I feel the first wintry cold,
Hear the sad sparrow's cry—
My poem is finished.
To whom shall I send it
For sympathetic response?
Surely, again to you at Suchow!
