The winter sun shines clear and bright;
How I love the sun's warmth
As I move into the pure sunlight!
Here I sit, undoing my sash,
Pulling the bedclothes around me.
Little Slave massages my troublesome leg;
Little Servant scratches my back.
I ask myself, who am I
To enjoy such peace and tranquility?
Let me attempt to outline the vital principle:
If your heart is settled but things unsettled,
You will find yourself outwardly oppressed
By cold and hunger. But, on the contrary,
With things settled, heart unsettled,
Thoughts and reflections burn within.
Indeed, I am now extremely fortunate
For heart and things meet in harmony.
From inner to outer, right to center,
Not a single obstruction occurs.
This is why I sit in the sun
Speaking to you of perfect ease.
Light bright winter sun glows; how I love the sun's warmth! I move towards the sun, where I sit hugging the bedcovers, relaxing my sash. Little Slave massages my legs, Little Servant scratches my back. I ask myself who I am to alone enjoy such tranquil peace. There's a wherewithal to tranquil peace, let me try to give you the general outline. If your heart is settled but things are unsettled, then you'll find yourself oppressed by cold and hunger from without. If things are settled but your heart is unsettled, then thought and reflection burn from within. I am now really extremely fortunate for heart and things have met in harmony. From inner to outer right to the center not one obstruction— that's why I sit in the sun, talking to you of perfect ease. |
