Eat peaches, plant their pits,
In one year pits bear buds;
In two years, long patterned leaves;
In three years peaches have blossoms.
Reverting directions, five or six years ago
The trees were fiery and fragrant.

Last spring the blossoms were few,
This spring, gradually, none at all,
Next year and the year following
What's to become of their fragrant wishes?
Order wine to drink beneath the trees;
Hold back your glass;
Fill it with fallen petals.
Because I suddenly searched for fruit.
I gave myself up to sadness,
Then to the making of this wild song.
Eat peaches, plant their pits; in one year pits bear buds. Two years? Long branches and leaves. Three years? Peaches have blossoms. Remembering five or six years ago, fiery and beautiful fragrant. Now it's eight or nine years, they get less, there's no increase. Last spring they were few, this spring there's gradually none. Next year and the year after what's to become of their fragrant intentions? Order wine. Drink it below the trees, hold back your cup, pick up the remnant blossoms.
