The small boat is on the pond, in it a bed, All alone, I pour the new wine beside the bed And alone taste it, Fragrant as vapors of a spring day, Sparkling as glow on autumn waters. It can wash away all vulgarity from my heart, Rinse clear the dust from my intestines. Past the curving river-banks the boat glides slowly; A goblet of wine accompanies each bend. I lose account of the songs. I become tipsy. I tipsily enter No-Account Village. The boat winds among pools and islands, Bamboo mirrored in the water, dark green. My body is at leisure, my heart relaxed and vacant, It's a long day and long for me. Even if I should not forget the world but be at leisure, My heart could be busy nevertheless; And even if the world should not forget me, I could still withdraw, yet find it hard to hide. But today neither condition holds true, The world and I have completely forgotten one another.
Small boat on the pond, a bed in the boat. New wine before the bed alone I pour, alone I taste. Fragrant like the vapors of a spring day, sparkling like the glow on autumn waters. It can wash away the common in my heart, rinse clear the dust in my intestines. Crooked the river banks, slow goes the boat, a goblet for each bend. Losing count of the songs I get tipsy, getting tipsy enter No-Account Village. Winding around pools and islands, bamboo by water green and deep. Body at leisure, a no-thing heart, long the day and for me. If I don't forget the world I can be at leisure and yet busy at heart. If the world doesn't forget me I can withdraw and yet find it hard to hide. But today I differ from both of these, for world and I have forgotten each other.
