Treading softly, softly,
I cross the river bridge;
strolling quietly, quietly,
I enter the forest path.
Who knows the depths
Of this quiet realm?
My lazy old body
Strolls on alone.
what do I love?
Encountering forms in nature
Kindles my interest:
Smooth glossiness of blue-green granite,
Shade trees dense even to their base.
I place a plain lute on a rock,
A pair of grass sandals beneath a tree.
This is where scholar Yung
Sat meditating on the three joys.
Soft-softly I pass the water bridge, quiet-quietly I enter the forest road. Who knows the depth of the quiet realm? Old body idle, I walk alone. Stroll-strolling what do I love? Meeting things naturally forms my interest. Smooth glossy blue-green granite, low dense green shaded trees. On the rock one plain lute, under the trees one pair of grass sandals. This is the place where Mr. Yung sat and meditated on the three joys. |
