My sedan chair is borne on shoulders So smoothly that motion remains slight. Inside is a drunken old man, A poetry-scroll spread on his knees, His wine-jug hanging on a bamboo pole. He eats and sleeps to no fixed schedule. His servants and horses go as slowly as they please. On approaching the water, they rest half the day. On gazing at the mountains, I tip the cup. I spread out the grass and sit on the mound, Pluck the flowers, saunter here and there. Breeze and scene are both temperate. Body and heart both comforted. Then I first come to realize That to those who strive Being at home is like travelling on the road. And then I know that to the spiritually unencumbered Travelling on the road is like living at peace. Last night I lodged at Three Halls, This morning revelled at Monkey Lake. For a hundred miles around the last of spring Accompanies me back to the Eastern Capital.
A sedan chair borne on the shoulders with slight movement, within a drunk old man. On his knees a poetry scroll, on a bamboo pole the wine-jug hands. Eat and sleep on an unfixed schedule, servants and horses mostly go on slowly as they please. Approaching water a half-day rest, looking at mountains I tilt a cup. I spread grass and sit on the mound, grasp flowers, walk to and fro. Breeze scene both warm, body heart both comforted. Then first I realize that to those who strive being at home is like being on the road. Then I know that to those unencumbered being on the road is like living in peace. Last night I lodged at Three Halls, this morn I frolic at Monkey Lake. Spring's remnants for a hundred miles around see me back to the Eastern Capital.
