I never tire of looking southeast
Where the river-tower faces the ocean gates.
Wind and waves have their times for rising;
Heaven and the horizon meet without a scar.
The gull's head is turned as the blown cloud sails;
The geese turn in harmony with snow-smitten waves.
Where fish and salt come together there's a market;
Fire and smoke arising make a village.
Sunlight shimmers on my leg like leaping gold waves;
Mountain crests are clustered like turquoise hairpins.
Wild geese dispatch autumn hundreds of miles,
The crying of a solitary monkey
Announces the day's end.
Now that my melancholy has dissolved,
I open my sick, muddled eyes—
In Hangchow no place is finer than East Tower
For viewing this spacious scene.
I never tire of looking southeast, river tower facing ocean gates. Wind and waves arise on schedule, sky and heaven meet without a scar. Gull's head moves, conveying the cloud's sails, geese turn in harmony to the snowy waves. Fish and salt assembled and there's a market, smoke and fire arise and make a village. The sun reflects on my leg, breaking golden wave; the tips of peaks cluster about, turquoise hairpins. Wild geese send off the autumn for hundreds of miles, lone monkey's cry announces the end of day. Melancholy within resolved, I open those sick muddled eyes. In Hangchow no place better than East Tower for viewing the scene. |
