Fish and bamboo shoots
Suffice for morning meals.
Light plaintain cloth
Relieves me from heat.

Clear weather persuades cranes
To dance two by two.
Autumn inspires
A single cicada's song.
No one calls to drink wine.
With whom can I tip the jug?
I am old; fully familiar
With the passage of events.
I am idle. Who habitually sees
Into the very soul of matter?

Who greet each other with delight.
Fish and bamboo shoots, morning meals filled; plaintain cloth worn light in the heat. I wish to sleep under the window but first I stroll alongside the pond. The clear weather induces the cranes to dance in pairs, the autumn gives rise to one cicada's sound. No one pays a call– wine, but with whom can I tip the jug? Old, well versed about time and events; idle, often seeing into the feelings of things. Truly only Liu and Po, the two old men who welcome each other with delight. |
