Rain after rain
wash T'ien-chin Bridge
till there's not
a speck of dust or mud.
When it first clears
you welcome early summer—
setting sun shines
its send-off
to remnant spring.
When I get excited,
poems from my mouth;
when I get wild,
wine for my body.
I stroll high
by the water's edge,
stand abashed
above the bridge.
A tutor to the Crown Prince
old in heart feelings
but you, sir,
can renew political fortunes.
Still now you're merely
Master of Three Streams;
breeze and scene
belong to the idle man.
Rain upon rain wash T'ien-chin Bridge Till there's not a speck of dust or mud. When it first clears, you welcome summer's coming; When the sun later shines, you bid spring's remnant farewell. When I grow inspired, poems pour from my mouth; When I become wild, my body demands wine. I stroll on the high path by the water's edge, Then stand abashed above the bridge. I'm merely a tutor to the Crown Prince Harboring old sentiments at heart, But you, sir, can renew political fortunes. Still, at present you're merely Master of Three Streams. Fresh breezes and fine scenes Belong to the idle man. |
