Those who labor
Sing, not realizing it,
Of their toil and pain;
Those at leisure,
Sing, not realizing it,
Of their leisure and joy,
If you inquire about leisure, I insist
On the fascination of idleness.
If you ask about joy, I reply
That I'm an official without worries or cares.
If you ask about my salary
I respond that it's hundreds or thousands a month.
If you ask about my age,
It's seventy less two.
What I have received exceeds my hopes—
When I reflect on this,
I truly feel ashamed.
The idle horse is unfettered,
The crane in its old age
Receives rank and pay.
Depending on the good works of Heaven,
I've become prosperous and tranquil.
How can I fail to sing
When I quietly receive Heaven's beneficence?
Those who labor sing not realizing it of their labor and pain, those at leisure sing not realizing it of leisure and joy. Ask me about leisure and I say there's much interest in being idle. Ask me about joy and I say an idle official few the worries and cares. Ask about the size of the salary? Hundreds of thousands of cash per month. Ask my age? Seventy less two. What I've gotten surpasses my hopes and when I reflect on this I really feel ashamed. The idle horse has no fetters, the old crane has rank and pay. Depending on the good works of Heaven prosperous tranquil have I been. How can I not sing but instead mutely receive Heaven's beneficence? |
