Before the Pavilion bamboos are soughing;
Beneath the Pavilion water flows murmuring.
I shake out the mat, roll up the screen; I sit.
A pure breeze arises in the grove.
I hear a soft crying of young cicadas;
I see birds returning from afar,
My cap hangs on the wall but no guest knocks.
The two Shu brothers return to their old village;
The Four Old Men go back to their ancient mountain.
At last I have attained my wish:
I sought idleness and idleness I have.
Soughing sound of bamboos before the pavilion, flowing sound of water below the pavilion. Shake out the mat, roll up the screen, and sit; pure breeze rises in the midst. Quiet hear the new cicadas cry, far off see birds in flight return. There's my cap hung on the wall but no guest knocks.
