In a hot season
I stay indoors.
No guest comes.
I unroll the bamboo blind
Sheltering my quiet room,
Sweep the ground anew
In my small courtyard,
Lift my garments,
Remove my headgear,
Idle precisely as I please.
When I awake in the cool of morning
My pillow and mat are pure.
What is at hand for lunch?
The mere flavors of flesh and meat.
Summer clothes amount to little;
Such as banana cloth and light cottons.
Since I have enough,
It's idle to seek more.
Compared with the man
Who dined on one dish
And drank from a gourd
At present I enjoy wealth and eminence.
The times are hot, I don't leave my gates; and no guest comes. I lower the bamboo blind deep in a quiet room, sweep the ground anew in a little courtyard. I raise my garments remove my turban idly do just as I please. Morning scene pillow and mat pure, awakening to coolness. What is there for lunch? The flavors of fish and meat. Not much in summer wear, banana cloth and cottons. Since I've got enough it's idle to seek more. Compared to the man who dined on one dish, drank from a gourd much my present wealth and eminence. |
