Everyone enjoys the colors of spring,
You alone love spring's intent.
What is it that spring signifies?
We old men know its flavor.
Night-time lessens the remnants of the candle.
Warm bedclothes enhance our morning sleep.
The breeze on the terrace signifies life's harmony;
The land by the pond is smoothly irrigated;
Flowers that blossom late excel in cultivated beauty.
The nightingale, loath to talk, withholds its thoughts.
You are older than I and still maintain your fast,
But in welcoming spring you appear to urge tipsiness.
On what day shall we feast and frolic?—
On the second day of the second month
Let's make an appointment with our hearts.
All enjoy spring's colors, you alone love spring's intent. What is spring's intent? An old man knows its flavor. Through the night hours, time lessening candle remnants; bedcoverlets warm adding to the morning sleep. Breeze on the terrace harmonious live, land by the pond emptily irrigated. The flowers blossom late, cultivating beauty; the nightingale retains its thoughts, loath to talk. Older than I am, still you hold to the fast but in welcoming spring you seem to urge on tipsiness. What day will we feast and frolic? Second day second month let's make a date with our hearts. |
