There's a white, frosty dew; the moon clears slightly; Days are cool, the landscape becomes serene; On the grass-tips the pearl-like dew is cold; The crescent moon comes further to life Beyond one corner of the tall tower. My rough coat complies well with the freshening air. Sounds from the fulling block Are carried on the fitful breeze. Night clothes are thoughtfully, fragrantly perfumed, While the autumn bamboo-mat remains unfeeling and cool. My dreams are brief; I frequently awake. During the long night I rise and saunter about. The candle casts shadows against the approaching dawn. Insect murmurs are reproachful of advancing cold. The old althea's blossoms are first to fall, While louts buds are first to form. Since the four seasons endlessly revolve, Why should we mourn transitions of glory and decay?
There's a white dew, the moon slightly clears; the days are cool, pure the scene. The pearl-like dew on the grass-tip is cold, the crescent moon comes to life by one corner of the tower. Fresh the air, robust my garments; remiss the breeze, sounds of the fulling block. Night bedclothes fragrant thought-filled, autumn bamboo mat cold unfeeling. Dreams short, frequently awaking; long the night, I get up and stroll. The candle fixes its shadow on approaching dawn, the insect sounds reproachful that it's about-to-cold. The old althea's blossoms first vanish, the lotus buds are first formed. Unending the four seasons, what need to mourn glory-decay?
