Apricots in the garden
Have opened red petals;
Orchids in the court
Have displayed purple buds.
Before we are aware of it
We plunge deep into spring.
This morning is the first of February;
Last winter, when plagued with illness,
I consulted a doctor's art for cure.
This spring I entered the Temple of Tao
For cleansing and purification through priestly laws.
I have heard that the learned and wise
Caution the sick to fast.
Here am I, a lover of wine,
Who for a hundred days
Have set the wine-cup aside.
Tomorrow morning, February second,
With sickness dispelled,
Fasting ended,
Taking along the wine-jug,
I shall visit Wei the Seventh and his flowers.
Apricots in the garden, opened red petals. Orchids in the court showing purple buds. Before I know it spring has deepened, this morn the first day of the second month. Last winter, plagued by illness I sought cure through the doctor's arts; this spring I enter the Temple of the Tao, to cleanse-purify through the priestly laws. I have heard that the sagely and wise cautioned about fasting and sickness. Here I am, a lover of wine who has stopped the wine-cup for one hundred days. But tomorrow morning the second day of the second month sickness pacified fasting ended I shall take along the wine-jug to seek out Wei the Seventh and the flowers. |
