Wind and rain come down the river
quickly enfolding the imperial city
the realm of towering blue lotuses
stands apart in the bleakness
the nearby hills are suddenly purified
the vapor disappears as the night arrives
tall trees cool the summer air
drifting clouds unveil a brocade moon
the Forbidden City has its restrictions
but a single river isn't that hard to cross
dawn is far off and already I'm waiting
in my lofty quarters in wistful reverie
