A confused heap of mountains
lording it over
a lonely city
in the valley
no wind here
but the clouds are moving overhead
it isn't night
but the moon's above the pass
why hasn't
that embassy come back?
did they wait for a chance
to kill the rebel chieftain?
I watch the west
for smoke and dust
anxious and looking even older
than I am.
