Alas my friends, at this parting how do you feel?
Stay your horses, enjoy your wine ─
I'd ask about the places you're assigned.
Amid the howls of Wu Gorge gibbons,
your tears would roll;
From the returning Hengyang wild geese,
your messages I'd find.
Afar you'd travel in an autumn sail
along the Green Maple River;
With scattered ancient trees,
the Baidi Town is lined.
Today, the court of wisdom often grants favour:
Let not a temporary separation unsettle your mind.
