Once on the tall city walls,
in sight is an immensity of sorrow...
Reminding me of Tingzhou
are the sedges and willow.
The clouds rise above the stream
as the sun sinks below the attic;
The mountain rain's imminent
as all over the tower, winds blow.
Birds descend on green weeds
as night falls in the Royal Garden of Qin;
Cicadas would chirp in the Palace of Han
by autumn when yellow the leaves grow.
One mustn't ask about the past:
Coming from home in the east,
the Wei River' continues to flow.
