The state is in pieces, mountains and rivers stay.
It is spring in the city, where grass and trees grow thick.
Moved by the times, the flowers scatter tears;
Grieved by separations, the birds are startled and afraid.
The soldiers’ beacon fires have burned three months in a row;
Family letters are worth their weight in gold.
I scratch my white hair so much, it has grown even shorter,
And soon it will simply be too thin to hold a hatpin.
