The east wind rumbles gustily, then a fine rain comes,
Rustling imperceptibly beyond the lotus pond.
The gold toads grip the locks, but incense smoke seeps through;
The jade tiger pulls the line, brings water up from the well.
Through a screen Miss Jia espied the young assistant Han;
Fu the nymph kept a pillow for the brilliant prince of Wei.
Spring thoughts, do not strive to better the flowers that bloom –
One one-inch heart yearns for a lover, one is ashen with loss.
