As Wang Jun’s tiered battleships came down from Yizhou
The royal aura of Jinling city darkened then disappeared.
Thousands of feet of iron chain were sent to the bottom of the river,
And a banner in surrender was raised out of the Stone Fort.
How many times in this world of ours have we grieved over past events?
Only the mountains stay unchanged, pillowing the cold river’s flow.
Henceforth the world will live in peace, a united family;
Ancient forts will lie forlorn in the autumn grasses and reeds.
When Wnag Jun's war junks slid down fro Yizhou The majesty of Jinling passed into the dark. A thousand feet of chains were sunk in the river bed, But flags of surrender appeared on the city of Nanjing. How often in human life are we touched by events from the past! The mountain's image as of old is pillowed on the cold current. These day, within the four seas all are one family; Only the old forts empty, dreary, are left to the reeds and the autumn. |
