In the empty mountains after the new rain
The evening is cool. Soon it will be Autumn.
The bright moon shines between the pines.
The crystal stream flows over the pebbles.
Girls coming home from washing in the river rustle through the bamboo grove.
Lotus leaves dance behind the fisherman's boat.
The perfumes of Spring have vanished
But my guests will long remember them.
AFTER recent showers in the lonely mountain Comes the autumn and its cool nights; The pines are bathed in the moon's lustre; The spring water flows serenely over the pebbles. The stir of the bamboos brings home the washerwomen; When the lotus moves, there goes the fishing craft. Spring grass has ceased, yet autumn's peace of mind is here; My noble friend, there is no hurry to leave. After newly-fallen rain in these vast mountains, When evening descends the air has the feel of fall. The limpid moon sparkles through the pine needles; The crystal stream glides glistening over the rocks. Babbling from the bamboo grove heralds the return of the washing girls. Lotus leaves sway as the fisherman pushes along his sampan... Although the fragrance of spring flowers has faded My good friend, you should still stay on $(for the beauty of autumn.)$ Fresh rain has fallen on the vacant mountains; 00 Autumn's evening approaches. 人けない山に雨が降ったばかり、
夕ベともなるといっそう秋の気配。
明るい月が松林の間に照り輝き、
清らかな泉が石の上を流れる。
竹がざわめいて、洗濯の娘たちが帰ってゆき、
蓮の葉が動いて、漁り舟が流れを下ってきた。
春の芳しい草が枯れたとて、かまわない。
この若様はこのまま、山中に留まるほうがいい。
