How should I take the grandiose Mountain Tai?
'Tween Qi and Lu's border the green ranges lie.
All beauties on it the Creator bestows;
Its peaks screen daylight and cast long shadows.
The rolls of clouds would lave my bosom on high;
The home-coming birds would lure my staring eye.
Thus I'll climb up to the summit and see
The mountains around and below are wee!
Great Mount Tai, what can you be compared to? Over Qi and Lu a dark presence never ending. In you the creator concentrated spirit and grace; Your north and south divide the dusk and dawn. My heart is stirred as layered clouds appear; My straining eyes catch sight of homing birds. I must make it to the very top, and see At a glance how all the other mountains grow small. |
