In March, when the peach blooms, the spring flood swells,
The river is recovering its old trails.
At morn it overflows the sandbank's tails,
While my wattled gate is waving in blue swirls.
With jointed strings they dangle about sweet baits,
And spliced bamboo pipes water the small garden beds.
From nowhere there have come down many birds,
Chattering, bickering in their happy bathe.
