Pines grow here
also chrysanthemums
along my wild paths
books in the house
by the cartload
I roast some sunflower seeds
to treat these distinguished guests
who have stopped by
on their bamboo viewing tour
birds were nesting here
before the spring turned green
and the orioles sing on
after the petals have fallen
but I have to admit I'm a little sad
about the whiteness of my hair
as if I couldn't quite accept
all the pleasures of this season.
Pines and chrysanthemums adorn my three deserted paths; My house is crammed with enough books and pictures to fill five carts. My honourable guests came to my poor cottage to admire the bamboo grove; I entertained them with roasted sunflower seeds. Birds feed their young even before the spring grass greens, And parrots shriek as they fly through falling flowers... I pity myself with my yellowing hair. So many years have passed—twice precious the time remaining! |
