The winter days in the mountain are lengthening,
Half of the sky is burning in the evening.
In Sichuan Province the flowers early mature;
The rocks in the river possess grotesque stature.
The Stone Cabinet sits above the pleated waves;
The image of the sheer wall in the green depth laves.
In the radiant sunglow the homing gulls hover;
The dusk guides us from afar the way to trudge over.
As a traveller I can only neglect the scenes,
And sigh to the place without a footprint long since.
I have submitted myself to frailness and old,
And in addition, suffered hunger and cold.
Poet Xie Lingyun led his life in carefree leisure,
While Tao Yuanming enjoyed his easeful pleasure.
Restricted in my movements by senile dacay,
I envy them that they were under their souls' sway.
