White clouds roll out the gates of White Emperor's walls,
While heavy rain beneath the foot of the City falls.
The swelling river thunders through the Gorge strait;
Old trees and vines shade the place to a gloomy state.
The war horses are not so peaceful as farm horses;
Out of a thousand, there remain a hundred houses!
Alas, the widows cry aloud, being bled white,
On the autumn fields, villages sink in a sorry plight!
