Shuddering this morning at my office end,
I suddenly thought upon my mountain friend –
Gathering thorn twigs down in the valley wood,
Returning then to boil white stones for food.
I wish I could send him a gourd of wine,
To cheer him up with love, in rain or shine.
But fallen leaves have covered up the slopes,
How could I find his track, hoping 'gainst hopes?
