Nightlong rain, I put on my clogs
Spring cold, I wear my old overcoat
White water spreads through the open dykes
Red peach flowers show between the willow trees
The grassy borders make a chess board
At the wood's edge rise the poles of the wells
I go back indoors and take up my desk
And evening will come, and I'll be alone among my weeds.
After rain all night, I put on some clogs, a worn robe tight against springtime cold. Peaches are blossoming red amid willows. Lit water cascades white between fields, patchwork chessboard of grass borders. A well-sweep arcs across the forest edge. Back home, I take a deerskin desk and sit alone as night falls, all bramble and weed. |
