In calm loneliness I shut my door
Against the whole afterglowing sky
Cranes are nesting in all the pines
No visitors at my wicket gate
Tender bamboos with the new bloom on them
Red lotuses shed of their old garments
A lamp shines out at the ford
Water-chestnut pickers come home.
Closing a brushwood gate in depths of isolate silence, I face distances of twilight radiance. Cranes are nesting in pines all around here, and visitors at my beanvine door remain rare. Rouge lotuses go on shedding withered robes. Young bamboo clings to its pristine powder. River-crossing lamps flicker on, and scattered water-chestnut gatherers wander back home. |
