I sit at night in Zen meditation
Before the religious platform
Where I observe the fast for purification
Under a gauze lamp
In the white sun.
My thoughts no longer return
To external things pertaining to the body,
Yet I'm not completely severed
From common worldly affinities.
Tomorrow morning I am resolved
To resume the wine cup, but tonight
I first hear the sounds of music.
Should you come to the temple
To inquire of my recent illness,
There's no harm for you to take along
A girl who scatters the flowers.
Under the gauze lamp before the religious platform, holding to fasting purification in the white sun, at night sitting in Zen, Thoughts of things external to the body return no longer but still not completely severed those affinities worldly. Tomorrow morn fixing in mind to take up the cup of wine, this night first do I hear the music sounds. If you come to the temple to ask about my illness no harm in taking along a lady who scatters the flowers.
