Green moss on the ground
Dispels remnants of heat;
Shade beneath green trees
Contributes to the evening's coolness.
I wear light sandals, single-lined clothes,
A thin cotton cap.
By the banks of the shallow pond
I have a low rattan bed.
Officials may think me over-sensitive.
They should recall that I'm deeply versed
In rocks and streams.
It's with them that I have lasting affections.
When I ask my friends
About a plan for old age,
Most of them reply: take things quietly,
Don't bluster about.
Green moss on the ground disperses remnant heat, shade in the green trees pursue the evening cool. Light sandals, single-lined clothes, thin cotton cap; shallow pond, by its banks a low rattan bed. Officials may accuse me of being thin-feelinged but it's rock and stream with which I'm fully versed, it's there the interest lasts. When I ask my friends about an old age plan most of them say: Take things quietly, don't busy about.
