After covering the doorway
And lowering the screen,
I slept sufficiently this morning,
Yet one cry of the nightingale
Reported spring at end.
By noon I put on my clothes and headgear,
While a maid with the two-cornered hair style
Supported my old body.
I try walking with a cane
Past the village lanes,
Take out a cup and drink leisurely
With my friend as guest.
Don't say that convalescence
Prevents laughing chatter!
I'm afraid I am even more given to it
Than one in perfect health.
Covering the door, lowering the screen I sleep enough that morning— but one cry of the nightingale reports spring's end. Putting on clothes and turban when the sun is high, maid in the two-cornered hair style supporting my old body. I strive to walk with a cane past the village lanes, draw forth a cup and idly drink with my friend as guest. Don't say that the post-illness period prevents laughter-chatter for I fear I do this more than an unsick person.
