The season of fragrance
Breathes its last hot vapors.
Moved by life's spectacle
I sit meditating upon it.
My emotions are at rest.
No one is near.
Whom can I talk to
If I opened my mouth?
But there's plenty of wine,
So I turn my head,
Tilt the jug
And look tipsily
At several clusters of carmine peonies.
When thirsty, I try a bowl
Of water clear as crystal.
As spring retreats
The nightingale sings its parting words,
A few rare notes
Issuing from its landscape-garden home.
Fragrant scene dispensing its last hot vapors, moved by the times, thinking of things I sit, feelings contained. No one there, if I open my mouth who can I talk to? But wine there is, so I turn my head and tilt the jug. Tipsy I face several carmine peony clusters; thirsty, I try a bowl of Crystal Clear. As spring goes back the nightingale seems to leave its parting words, a few choice sounds from its forest garden home. The season of fragrance Breathes its last hot vapors.
