On snowy nights I idly frolic,
As a rule taking a candle with me.
When flowers are in bloom, I go out,
Taking along my wine-jug.
Since we parted, I've had few encounters
With friendly poetic challengers;
As old age advances
It grows harder to meet our drunken buddies.
You've made a famous name
In conquering the northern enemy
And you work for a benevolent rule,
Reviving the public welfare.
But nevertheless I wonder:
What of languid indulgence
In wine and song? Maybe that's
Where the tipsy Honan Intendant excels!
