Thirty years ago
I became owner of a grass hut;
Now, though I'm still alive,
My hair is white as silk.
I have no more strength
To climb mountains or seek out rivers,
As once when I was Marshal of Chiang-chou.
I've gradually yielded
To that devil wine.
No longer do I allow myself
to be mad and tipsy.
Some good deeds
Still remain to be done.
I've not yet discarded my poetry.
If by chance you stroll
Beneath Fragrant Stove Peak,
Please for my sake tell this
To the Religious Elder of East Forest Temple.
Thirty years before owner of a grass hut and now though I'm still alive my hair's white like silk. To climb the mountains seek the rivers I've got no strength, not like when I was Marshal of Chiang-chou. I've gradually yielded to that devil wine, stopped getting tipsy wild. Good deeds remain to be done, I've not yet tossed aside the poems. If you chance to stroll below Fragrant Stove Peak, for my sake please inform the Religious Elder of East Forest Temple.
