Chill wind and forlorn rain; Autumn's guests are few. Gateway and courtyard are cold and quiet, Closed throughout most of the days. The horse with the gold bridle Has recently been sold. My "Willow Branches" with their silken sleeves Have also been returned to freedom. Occasionally I read books But only to entice sleep; I take shallow glasses of wine In some degree to moderate sadness. With blurred eyes I enter upon night, Oblivious of the moon; Spring having passed, Though I have climbed no mountain, My feet grow heavy. I am heavy at heart. Even among noisy crowds I cannot escape loneliness. Calculations are forgotten. All that is recalled Is a meaningless dreaming, Right and wrong, love and hate, Vanish completely. Life is vacant, empty, utterly disembodied.
Wind-rain forlorn, few the autumn guests. Gate-court cold quiet, closed most of the days. The horse with the golden bit has of late been sold, my Willow Branches with the silken sleeves have likewise returned to freedom. Books sought at times but to provoke me to sleep; taking wine-glass shallow to somewhat resolve the sad. Eyes dim I enter night not looking at the moon; feet heavy spring goes by but I climb no mountain. Heart quiet I can't prevent feeling forlorn even in noisy places; calculations forgotten all remembered through the idle dream. Right and wrong love and hate completely vanish– I give to the world a body empty.
