A myriad valleys brush with soughing trees.
O'er thousand steeps soars Autumn's freshened breeze.
From out the suburb walls our skiff has sped;
Our parting banquet on the river spread.
A noble meeting! yet it lasts not long.
Why o'er this life do care and trouble throng?
These bones are prey to want and woe severe;
While robber gangs as thick as hairs appear.
You, uncle mine, regretting me to leave,
Like him of old, your mantle me bequeathe.
Upon the sands at eve the yellow crane,
Its true mate lost, will dismally complain.
